Push Button
Use the Push Button part to add a push button users can select in order to submit the data from a form or to reset the form to its initial values. The Push Button part generates the HTML element input with the type attribute set to reset or submit.
To add a Push Button part, select the Web Form Parts Category (
), then the Push Button part (
). You can also add the part using the Add Part dialog and specifying the class name,
AbtHtmlPushButton.
Push Button Properties
The Push Button part has the following properties:
buttonType
Use the buttonType property to specify what you want to happen when the user selects the push button at run time. Select one of the following choices:
<Default>
The browser's default button type.
Button
Works in connection with JavaScript.
Image
Works like a Submit button, but with a graphic label.
Reset
Resets the values of the form to their initial settings without submitting any data to the server.
Submit
Sends the form data to the server for processing.
converter
Use the converter property to specify the converter to use for the part. A converter is an object that manages the conversion of other objects to and from their display format for certain visual parts, such as a Text part.
extraAttributes
Use the extraAttributes property to specify any additional HTML attributes that you want included in the HTML tagging generated by the part. You can use this property to include HTML attributes that are not directly supported by VA Smalltalk.
graphicsDescriptor
Use the graphicsDescriptor property to specify the location of the image you want to use for the push button label at edit time. You can use any file type supported by VA Smalltalk. This property is used only if you have set the buttonType property to Image.
Note:
The graphicsDescriptor property affects only the appearance of the page in the Composition Editor at edit time. It has no effect on the generated HTML and will not cause a graphic to appear in Web browsers at run time. In order to display a runtime graphic, you must specify a location for a graphic using the imageURL property.
imageURL
Use the imageURL property to specify the location of the image to use for the push button label at run time. You can specify any image file that is supported by the Web browser used at run time, provided the image is in a location accessible to the browser. This property is used only if you have set the buttonType property to Image.
object
Use the object property to specify the text you want to use as the label of the push button. This property is used only if the buttonType property is not set to Image.
partName
In the Part name field, type the name you want to use to describe the part. For non-visual parts, this text appears under the icon for the part on the free-form surface.
The name of the part can consist of alphanumeric characters, and must be unique from all other parts on the layout surface.
This field is optional. If you do not specify a part name, VA Smalltalk generates a unique name based on the class name of the part.
