Starting up
The first thing you probably want to know is how to start up a VAST development environment.
If you haven't already installed VAST Platform , refer to the Installation Guide for information on how to install the product. You should install the “Standalone” configuration. The VAST installation program installs all the necessary files for your development environment. Two files are of particular importance:
o the library which shares and manages code and
o the image which provides a development environment on an individual workstation. The image holds your work.
Sometimes we refer to the development environment as the image and the library as the manager. For the purposes of this book, we assume the simplest installation: standalone which is good for development of software by a single user.
The VAST installation program also installs a tool called Environments which you can use to create and start a VAST development environment.
Next pages describe how to
o Use it to
create a VAST development environment
o Use if to
launch a VAST development environment
If you already have a development environment you want to use, skip creating an environment and go right to
launching one.
